Why am I running? “Driven by a deep commitment to fostering educational excellence, I am dedicated to creating an inclusive and supportive environment where every student can thrive. With my experience in working with parents, I understand the importance of not just parental involvement, but parental engagement in the success of students. I understand the importance of collaborating with diverse stakeholders to create positive change. Most of all I believe this can best be accomplished via the public education system where all children are accepted.”
What is one thing I believe the township does well? “Our district can be quite proud of our IREAD-3 scores. In the 2023–2024 school year, all 10 of our elementary schools improved their IREAD-3 results by at least 4% compared to the previous year, with more than an 81% overall. This is the second year in a row that Warren Township has had the highest growth in Marion County. In fact, Warren has two schools that are in the top 10 growth in the state. While we can be proud of this accomplishment, we must continue this trend, as there are now negative legislative consequences for our children should they not pass this year.”
What changes would you like to see? “I am excited to say that we are extending our IREAD-3 work to ILEARN. The unfortunate aspect regarding ILEARN is the constant changing of the test, vendors, test set-up etc. This year we are unpacking academic standards. This involves teachers taking a deep dive into the content of each standard and identifying what the student needs to know. We will also be piloting the ILEARN Checkpoints. They are short assessments given in the fall, winter and spring. These checkpoints will give the teacher information that will help guide and support student instruction. I look forward to seeing the data from these checkpoints.”
“Our attendance rate continues to climb year after year. Check out our August attendance rates.” August 2024 - 95.02%
August 2023 - 93.83%
August 2022 - 93.21%
